FAQs
Find the answers to the most frequently asked questions about Faber Range Hoods.
A warning light is flashing, must I contact customer service?
+Before calling customer service to ask for help, please check the hood’s instructions manual and the “Use” and “Maintenance” paragraphs, to check if the flashing light is a filter alarm on the hood, which can be switched off simply by operating a reset on the hood’s commands.
Faber recommends ducting outside because it is:
+More effective: Steam, smoke, odor, heat, humidity, VOC’s, gas cooking by products are all expelled by ducting outside. Ductless hoods will not expel any of these contaminants, they will only filter some odors.
Less noisy: the air passes without obstacles, making less noise. The extra filtration step of charcoal filters creates more resistance for the air and thus creates noise.
How can I clean the hood?
+It's easy to get the hood nice and clean: it takes a soft cloth and mild detergent, without chlorine to avoid damaging the finish.
How can I download the instructions manual?
+Visit the technical specifications page and look for your model number
How can I identify the hood in my house?
+The model and serial number of each hood is written on the label inside the product (which you can find by removing the grease filters). Label example
How can I order accessories and replacements?
+Contact our customer service team, provide us with your hood model / serial number and we will direct you how to proceed.
How can I prevent the hood from making a noise?
+The noise is generated by the airflow passing through the grease filters of the hood during operation. We built the internal components of our hoods so that the airflow meets few obstacles in its path, with excellent results in terms of efficiency and low noise. An effective way to prevent an increase in noise is to use the proper sized ducting. Dirty and saturated grease or charcoal filters can obstruct the air flow: a periodic cleaning (or replacing) of the filter ensures a smooth flow of air. Contact our customer service team for replacement part information.
How is performance measured?
+The extraction capacity and noise levels of Faber hoods are measured according to international standards IEC / EN 61591 and IEC / EN 60704-3 (Sound power), specially prepared by the certification bodies to detect the performance of range hoods. These methods reproduce the typical conditions of installation and operation, therefore provide actual an truthful data.Ask for performancethatrefersto thesestandards: you can rely on correct information, complete and reliable as those we declare. Our laboratory is accredited NEMKO and IMQ and all the performance of the hoods, including the ability of our filters to capture grease and the brightness of the lamps, are measured internally.
How many CFM's do I need for my kitchen?
+CFM (Cubic feet per minute of air movement) is the measurement of power or how much air a hood will vent out of the kitchen. The higher the CFM, the more powerful the hood. In general, standard cooking like induction or electric cooking would call for at least 300 CFM. If your cooking style tends towards more aromatic dishes which would produce more steam, smoke and odors; then a higher CFM level should be considered over basic cooking surfaces. For higher powered stoves, professional style stoves or gas cooktops; at least 600 CFM is recommended. If the total BTUs of the gas cooking surface are above 80,000 BTUs, then 900 – 1200 CFM would be recommended. The rule of thumb equation to use is to add all the burners total output for BTU’s and divide by 100 to get a CFM recommendation. For example, a 45,000 BTU output stove would call for a minimum of 450 CFM.
I am ducting the hood outside; do I need to duct the hood out of my wall or ceiling?
+Yes. Ducting must terminate outside of your home if ducting outside. A crawl space, attic, basement, garage; do not meet the definition of outside your home. It is critical that ductwork be connected without leaks and vent outside of your home.
If, for installation reasons, I must place the hood lower than the minimum height off the stove in the instruction manual, will the warranty still be valid?
+No. You must install the hood at the height shown in the instruction manual for the warranty to be valid and, most importantly, for safety in the kitchen.
My hood is old, and I cannot find a replacement part. Who can I contact?
+Contact the Faber customer service department and provide us with your hood model and you can ask for the parts you need (if it still exists and is available).
The hood is not exhausting properly, what should I do?
+Check (or ask your installer to check) the hood’s installation, that it has been installed correctly and, in all cases, following the steps described in the instruction manual supplied with the hood. If the installation is correct and poor suction is caused by a fault in the product, you should call Faber customer service and provide the model and serial number written on the label inside the hood.
The controls of the hood are not working, who can I call?
+You can contact Faber customer service and provide the model and serial number written on the label inside the hood.
There are excess vibrations in the hood, what should I do?
+Check (or ask your installer to check) the hood’s installation, that it has been installed correctly and, in all cases, following the steps described in the instruction manual supplied with the hood. If the installation is correct and the excess noise comes from the product, you should call Faber customer service and provide the model and serial number written on the label inside the hood.
What are the filters? How often do they need to be replaced?
+Filters are an integral part of the hood, their maintenance affects the effectiveness, safety and noise levels of the hood.
The grease filters protect the motor from grease contained in the cooking contaminants brought into the hood.
The grease filters of Faber hoods (professional baffle, baffle or mesh) ensure a high capture of the grease particles. Baffle and mesh filters capture more than 90% of grease. To keep them efficient it’s important to wash them by hand or in the dishwasher, on average every 2 months. Always remember to let the filters dry after washing and before inserting them back into the hood. The charcoal filters are to be installed only on hoods in ductless or recirculating mode. They are not washable and must be periodically replaced, on average every 3 - 4 months.
What ducting is recommended for the best performance?
+Smooth galvanized metal ducting is always recommended. It is important to maintain the same size ducting through the entire duct run, from the hood to the outside wall cap. Smaller ducts have a negative effect on suction rates and make the hood noisier.
What should I do if I am unable to install the charcoal filter?
+The instructions manual provides pictures on how to install the filter correctly. Alternatively, you can call Faber customer service for assistance.
What should I do if the label with the model and serial number is no longer legible?
+If the label is illegible or damaged you can contact us at Faber customer service and send us the photographs of the product.
Who can I contact if I have problems with installation?
+The instructions manual provides all the information required to install the product correctly. Please contact Faber customer service if you have any questions
